Why is lighting protection important?
Whether lighting strikes are common or not in your area, protection should always be considered. Public outdoor facilities such as golf courses should take extra caution to these measures.
Depending on the
severity of damage to plant tissue, lightning is not always detrimental.
Typical "wounds" will cause striping of bark in a spiraling effect down the
tree. Woodland Tree Services can help in deciding if treatment is beneficial
after a strike.
Lighting Protection Techniques:
(LPS) in trees are much like the ones used for buildings and large structures. The objective of a (lps) is to protect the structure and/or people around it. In areas with flat land and tall structures the risk for lightning strikes at pin-point locations increase.
Golf Course Trees - are common candidates for (LPS). Trees are often used for shelter during a storm. Lightning is prone to strike here on open courses. (LPS) can not only protect valuable trees but innocent bystanders too.
Champion Trees - often outdate our great grandfathers. As trees mature, they gain mass and size becoming more susceptible to lightning injury. (LPS) are a proactive approach to preserving these champions for future generations.
