Meet Kat Smith, the Plant Health Care Manager at Woodland Tree Services. Before joining the team in April of 2021, she worked as a Fabrication Welder in the Skilled Trades industry. Still, she pined for the days spent working outdoors as a Director on an 800-acre Boy Scout Camp. So, naturally, Kat jumped at the opportunity to work with her Father, Randy Smith, who has been with the company since her childhood.
Kat took to the new line of work quickly and has since become an integral part of the team. Her first big moment in the Tree Care industry came just a few months after starting when she identified and reported the first confirmed case of Balsam Woolly Adelgid in Michigan. With her help, our crews safely eradicated the infestation, which has not been detected in Michigan since writing. Kat is an avid researcher who doggedly pursues tough-to-diagnose diseases and works tirelessly to help her clients nurse their beloved but ailing trees back to health. Her favorite part of her job is treating Hemlocks all along the lake shore, which is her favorite tree. When Kat isn't focusing on providing outstanding plant health care to her clients, she enjoys caring for her collection of bonsai trees and listening to audiobooks. Her favorite "Tree-Centric" book recommendations are The Overstory by Richard Powers and Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. MDARD #C001210300 |
